The Ethics Board of the Sierra Leone Football Association says the General Secretary of the association is no longer suspended from work because “it is now clear to us that you did not, whether by your actions or omission, obstruct the Ethics Board in performing its functions”. Just over two weeks ago the Ethics Board, chaired by lawyer Drucil Taylor accused the General Secretary of essentially refusing to cooperate with the body as it prepared to “commence work after thorough integrity checks which were conducted for the election of officers of the executive of the Sierra Leone Football Association…”
According to the statement, in September the Board wrote a letter asking for a meeting with the Executive Committee of the SLFA “to have them understand the volume of outstanding work and to see that our needs as a board were not only dealt with, but expeditiously also. There was no response to the said letter despite multiple follow-up calls to the secretariat, through your very good self…”
In its latest statement on the suspension of the General Secretary, the Ethics Board says they “received a response from the president of the SLFA confirming the content of the content of your response to be true, reaffirming that the operation of the board were stifled by lack of funds as the SLFA was restructuring its expenditure pattern in compliance with a FIFA directive but not necessarily the act or omission of your good-self or the Executive Committee of the SLFA”.
In reality the General Secretary and the Executive Committee of the SLFA ignored the suspension slammed by the Ethics Board and Chris Kamara remained in post during the period of the suspension. A prominent football administrator told Politico that the brushing aside of the pronouncements of the Ethics Board by the Executive Committee “on this important question” has harmed the reputation of the Board such that all their subsequent decisions on any issues run the risk of being rejected”.
Some other football administrators blasted the Ethics Board for “acting outside their powers”
