Female football  team Coach asked to step aside over misconduct claims

  • Sierra Queens in Liberia

By Alpha Abu

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has ordered the Head Coach of the female national football side, Sierra Queens, to step aside in the face of claims of misconduct.

A Press release from the FA issued last Sunday evening 24th October 2021 stated Abdulai Kaloga Bah should “step aside from his duty with immediate effect pending investigations on him regarding alleged professional misconduct”. The statement which was very short, indicated Assistant Head Coach I Hassan Malik Mansaray will now take charge of the team. Sierra Queens left Freetown over the weekend to play Gambia’s national team today in an AFCON qualifier.

Politico saw apparently a Whatsapp message with the recipient tagging the sender’s contact identification as simply “Coach”. The individual known as coach had sent insidious and thinly veiled sexual explicit messages. We cannot not authenticate the origin of the whatsapp text or link it to the present case, since social media is full of mischievous antics these days.

However just recently the Men’ National Football  Team Coach John Keister was heard in a recorded phone call virtually intimidating a female football player for suspected agitation by the girl for improved conditions like their male counterparts. The audio drew public outrage with Keister accused of bullying and being misogynistic. He had since made a lengthy public apology, profusely registering regret over his action which he admitted was wrong.
