Kamboi Eagles defeated Mighty Blackpool 1-0 in Kenema to go five games in the league without conceding a goal. This means they have now played (7hrs 30 minutes (450 minutes) of football without conceding a goal.

Eagles are flying high on top of the table with 13 points. Head Coach of the team, Alhaji Foray told Politico that their rigidity at the back is a result of a long-term work that he has put in to training and personnel recruitment.

“We have a very organized defensive line. Last season by the end of the league I had observed that our major problem was defense. So, I had to buy new defenders to come into the team,” Foray said.

Last season Eagles finished 3rd in the league, scoring 29 goals and conceding 21 goals. The quartet of Abass Kamara, Yakuba Koroma, Daramy Karim Sesay and Joseph Samura Kamara have added the much need surety in front of goalkeeper, Mabey Sartie.

Foray said despite their defensive rigidity they were also focusing on scoring goals.

“For now, our emphasis is to score goals. And we are not going to go defensive later in the season,” he said.

This season they have already won four out of their five games and drawn one. They have scored five goals, averaging one goal per game.

Foray and Eagles have not hidden their title ambitions this season. In November last year, he told Politico that there was a strong belief around the team that they would win the league.

On their road to the top they have defeated two of last season’s top six teams- Central Parade and Mighty Blackpool, sending a clear message of strength.

The team now prepares to face Old Edwardians in Freetown on Sunday. Edwards had gone on a run of their own till they were defeated in Kono last weekend by Diamond Stars.
