By Prince J Musa in Kenema

Women to Women group in Kandu Leppiama Chiefdom in Kenema district with support from local authorities in the chiefdom have launched a periodic market at Gbogboma village as part of promoting Agricultural productivity and business in the area.

Speaking at the launch of the market  on the 12th October 2023 Chairlady of Woman to Woman Frankell James Vibbi explained that she decided on putting a group together which has been heavily involved in agriculture, explaining that it led to the idea of having a market.

She said they had asked the chiefdom authorities for a space for a special Market Day(Trade Fair) where they can sell their agricultural produce, which will increase income that can be used to support  members. She revealed that they are yet to receive fertilizer from the Federation of Farmers to do their agriculture work.

Giving a background to the trade fair, Vibbi explained that she decided to bring women together after she observed the continuous occurrence of conflict between them and their husbands.

She stated that poverty is one of the causes of these conflicts, noting that this led to the initiative to bring women together and help them embark on Agricultural farming, and business by raising funds to loan women to do business.

“I saw the suffering of my colleague women in the community with a lot of ‘palava’ with their husbands. I decided to bring them together to form a group to help one another’’ said Vibbi.

Vibbi stated that they can now boast of some money that they can use to add value to their agricultural produce.

Chiefdom Speaker Small Bo Ishmael Koroma  on behalf of neighbouring chiefdoms commended the  authorities in Kandu Leppiama for taking the step to open the market.

He expressed appreciation to Vibbi for demonstrating love to her fellow women, saying that it is only love that will bring unity and development. He encouraged women to embrace agriculture and business in order to reduce poverty in the country.

In her keynote address, Paramount Chief Theresa Vibbi of Kandu Leppiama expressed delight at the unity amongst women in the chiefdoms, saying that it has minimized the rate of conflicts in homes.

P C. Vibbi called on all to maintain peace and focus on developing the market.
