Kono District Football Association (KDFA) has in a statement urged the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) and other football stakeholders to investigate the Gulf Fc versus Koaquima Lebanon FC match that ended in a whopping 92 goals score line in Kono on 3rd July, 2022.
The match was one of the super ten (10) matches for entry into the premier league promotion playoff.
According to association, the match was not only unprecedented in global football history, but an ‘embarrassment’ and ‘utter disgrace’ to every football stakeholder including KDFA, Eastern Region Football Association (ERFA), SLFA and the nation as a whole.
The release stated that as an association within whose jurisdiction the match was organized, it unequivocally condemned the unethical sportsmanship exhibited by the teams and officials that were involved in the game.
KDFA says the match has the potential to jeopardize the game in the country and even ‘dent’ the image of Sierra Leone football at global level.
SLFA was asked to immediately suspend and investigate all those that were in charge of organizing the game and to remind leagues, clubs, players and officials to observe all protocols by all the international affiliate football organizations including FIFA.
KDFA says a breach of FIFA principles will be considered as a deliberate misapplication of their statues and those of CAF, WAFU and FIFA. The Sports Ministry, National Sports Authority (NSA) and Parliamentary Sports Committee were asked to play an oversight role to ensure reinforcement of the investigations.
Kahunla against Lumbembu United also played in Kenema District at the same time also ended 95-0, causing world -wide attention, prompting the SLFA President Thomas Dady Brima to condemn all four teams and officials as well as the match commissioners.
