The police Criminal Investigations Department in Bo is investigating a suspected murder involving one Micheal Sesay, a businessman and resident of Bo. Sesay is suspected of stabbing to death his girlfriend, Mamie Koroma.
Speaking to Politico about the incident, the Regional Police Media and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Mohamed Bobson Senu, said the suspect has confessed committing the alleged crime.
“Police took statement from one Shiek Dyfan Massquoi of No 24 Marcarhy Street Bo #2. According to him, on Monday 13th July, 2020, at Abie Street, he got a call from his cousin that one Mamie Koroma had been stabbed by Michael Sesay of Bo City,” he explained.
The police spokesman noted that upon hearing that, the police wasted no time to go to the house where they discovered that the corpse had multiple stab wounds, on her chest as well as on both sides of her body.
Micheal Sesay was subsequently arrested in Pujehun and is currently in Bo helping the police with their investigation.
According to the police, the body had been handed over to the government pathologist for autopsy.
Dorcas Hannah Gborie, a relative of the deceased, explained to Politico that her sister’s death was mysterious and called for justice to be served.
“I had to rush out and we went to her house, we met her in the bed in a pool of blood. So I decided that we should not touch her and to call the police,” Dorcas said.
Dorcas added that she was aware of the relationship between the deceased and Michael Sasay about a year ago, noting that the deceased was always explaining that Micheal was dishonest and not serious, and that they had in many occasions intervened to solve their problem. She said they however were never expecting to have received news of such an outcome.
“As a family, we want justice to prevail. We thank God the police did a great work for us and they have apprehended Michael Sasay," Dorcas said.
The deceased, Mamie, according to relatives, is a mother of one and was preparing to rewrite the upcoming WASSCE to enter university. She was also a business woman.
There have been growing concerns over the increasing rate of reported stabbing incidences in Bo, especially among married couples and people in relationships. Some residents are therefore calling on the government, the inter-religious bodies and the judiciary to do something about it.
Inspector Senu also confirmed that there have been many violent incidents in Bo District. He cited the latest such incident as one Mamie Alhaji of Guala Village, Boama Chiefdom, who he said was killed by her former husband, Sandy Demby of the same village and her remains dumped in a swamp on the 30th of June this year.
Elsewhere in the country there have been similar increase in rate of crimes relating to murder, man slaughter and rape. Just last weekend, a former Reverend of the Wesleyan Church in Makeni allegedly murdered his wife and dispose of the body in the bush.
