The Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Sierra Leone Police in Bo is investigating one Pessima James for illegal possession of shotguns and Cartridges.
According to the Southern Region Police Public Relations officer, Constable Alhaji Osman Mansaray, personnel at the Falla Checkpoint arrested James with unlawful possessions while onboard a commercial vehicle on the 3rd of October 2023.
He told the Police that he was staying at Tantihun village a few miles from the Bo Checkpoint at Falla. He informed the police during the investigation that his late father was a farmer who was using the shotgun for hunting purposes, noting that he inherited it from his father for the same purpose.
The Southern Region Police media reiterated that the law does not permit him to carry an unlicensed gun and recalled how some time ago police arrested a man at Sorogboma, in Pujehun district with a shotgun and was brought to Bo where he was investigated and charged to court.
He referenced Police Constable Patrick Mohamed Gobeh who had succeeded in arresting Kush, Marijuana, and other drugs at the Falla checkpoint and has caught the attention of the Inspector General of Police. He implored other checkpoints to inculcate the good example of personnel at Falla.
Constable Mansaray pointed out that Police have a mandate to protect lives and properties and that, they will not allow people to carry guns when they don't have the right to do so.
He concluded that the accused would be investigated and charged to court while calling on the public to report to the police those they know of carrying unlawful shotguns.
