Methodist Church unveils new leaders

By Aminata Phidelia Allie

The Western District Synod of the Methodist Church of Sierra Leone on Sunday 22 September added six new hands to the work “in the Lord’s vineyard”.

Preaching on the theme “Here am I send me” from Isaiah 6:8, the chairman of synod warned the six to always be ready to spread the good news of Jesus Christ  “to the dying world as God is always looking for willing hearts to make modern day Isaiahs”.

Reverend Arnold Archer-Campbell said that it only took the grace of God to survive “in a nation where corruption and ‘connectocracy’ are the order of the day”, adding: “everything is politicised these days”.

He called on Christians to avail themselves for God to reveal his purpose for their lives, saying that God was using our current situation in Sierra Leone to “make us aware of his presence and sovereignty”.

He warned that as Sierra Leoneans, we should not allow politics to divide us, adding that the political divide had greatly affected the country’s economy. “Politics is for a time but our lives remain after it all. A house that is divided will not stand”, the synod chairman preached.

He admonished the church, especially the newly ordained leaders to “preach the word, set the captives free, bind the broken hearted so that the world will know that we have a God that is alive and powerful.

Speaking to Politico, Rev Archer-Campbell said the ordained leaders had gone through both oral and written exams at various levels within the circuit and Methodist church conference.

He said they would be joining over 50 other reverends in the entire Western Area of Freetown. To be eligible for the appointment, he said, they had to be academically and spiritually equipped “with a certificate from a college of theology”.

The six new leaders of the church will be stationed at the Ribbi Mission Songo, Bauya, York Circuit Hamilton, Wellington Circuit, Freetown Zion Circuit and the Wesley Circuit, all within the Methodist Church Mission.

They were ordained at the Wesley Methodist Church, Lamina Sankoh Street.
