Sierra Leone’s newly appointed Chief Immigration Officer Alusine Kanneh has promised to reform the institution.

In a brief interview with the newly appointed Officer, he explained that an assessment of the institution will be conducted and that it will be followed by legislative and other reforms that will make the institution meet the public’s expectations.

Kanneh’s appointment was made public via a letter from the office of President Julius Maada Bio dated 25th August 2023 and signed by the Secretary to the President Julius F. Sandy.

The Appointee is a former Member of Parliament from Kenema District, who served the fourth and fifth parliament of the second republic.

The Former MP has served as Deputy Chief Whip for the government bench; he was also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs and member of other committees.

Kanneh’s appointment has seen the sacking of the then Chief Immigration Officer Andrew Jaiah Kai Kai who served for five years since his appointment in 2018.

Sierra Leone’s passport price remains one hundred dollars, which has generated many concerns from Sierra Leoneans especially at a time when the Leone continue to devalue the Leone over the United States dollar.
