Elections for district paramount Chief Members of Parliament have taken place in five districts last Saturday.
A statement by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) Saturday evening, confirmed that polling took place in Bombali, Kambia, Bonthe, Falaba and Pujehun., and that with the exception of two polling stations , 126 other stations opened on the stipulated 7am time.
The statement also indicated that voters in two polling stations, one in Kamadugu Yiraia Chiefdom, Falaba District and the other in Sebora Chiefdom in Bombali District did not vote because of issues with the gazetted lists of Chiefdom Councillors used for the elections.
It did not elaborate but it confirmed that voting in Sebora chiefdom has been rescheduled for today Monday 22nd May. The statement did not tell when the other voting in Kamadugu Yiraia will take place.
According to the commission’s statement, there was visible police presence in the various areas, as well as that of election observers and journalists.
No date has been set for the announcement of the results but the statement did say the results will be announced by the Chief Electoral Commissioner after their tallying at the National Data Centre in Freetown.
