In order to boost rural electrification in the country, the Minister of Energy Alhaji Kanja Sesay has lit up the Pujehun Township with two sets of 640kva thermal generating plants after 40 years without electricity. The electrification was done on 20th June 2023.
Sesay said the commissioning is part of the seven-township electrification process President Julius Maada Bio committed to undertake and called on the people of Pujehun to take care of the facility.
Paramount Chief Jaiah Kaikai of Kpanja Chiefdom commended President Bio for sticking to his promise to provide Pujehun with energy. He added that they have been anticipating getting electricity after decades without light.
A businessman at Stoke Road in Pujehun, Mohamed Musa Jalloh said he is one of the happiest people in the district over the electrification of the town.
He noted that before now, he has been using five liters of petrol to light a generator to cold the drinks of his business or send people to Sahn Malen, Bo, and other places to buy ice.
“I want to thank the government and President Bio for this. I will not spend huge amounts on fuel again,” he said.
A businesswoman and musician going by the name ‘’K woman’’ said she will make good cash now because, with electricity in the district, her drinks will be cold.
The Manager for Radio Wanjei, Abubakarr Mustapha said they have spent millions to buy fuel for their generator. He said with the electricity in the township, they will save more money and help improve their station. The township was in jubilation after the light was switched on.
Also, Moyamba town was on Sunday 18th June switched on by President Bio after over 40 years of lack of power supply.
