Raymond Lewis Blasts Lions Players

By Kemoh Sesay

The Caretaker Coach of EE Lions Football Club Raymond Lewis, Aka Mourinoh, has expressed dismay over his player’s performance in a 1-1 draw with their arch rivals Mighty Black Pool Football Club over the weekend.

The match was part of the ongoing Premier League organized by the Awoko faction of the SLFA ((SLFA-A) at the national Stadium.

Lewis attributed that poor performance to the lack of regular training by his players, noting that since he took over as caretaker coach of the club this had been the problem of the players.

“Players are not coming frequently to train which has forced me to recruit other players to help the team to move on,’’ said Lewis.

He pointed out that they are playing an abnormal league which lacked proper structure, but said players should not take that as an advantage for absenting themselves from training.

“I have advised them that if they are having issues with the executive they should obey and complain later, rather than absenting themselves  from training session which is affecting my job as a coach,’’ Lewis said.

When asked if it is about players’ salaries that led to their absence? Raymond Lewis replied:

“I did not know anything about players’ salaries. If they have been paid or not it is the business of the executive, not me. I am also an employee in the club.’’

The Secretary General of EE Lions, Abdul Rahman Davis, when contacted disclosed that players were training every day except for those who were presently training with the U-20 national team.

The U-20 team trains in the morning hours at the SLFA  Academy.

Davis added that few players were sick, noting that one of them was in fact just from a major operation.

“Normally EE lions train during the evening hours but when Raymond Lewis took over as Caretaker coach he has changed the time to morning sessions. We don’t have no problem with that change. We don’t want to interfere with his job,” said Davis.
