By Mohamed Jaward Nyallay

Chelsea center back, Antonio Rudiger has finally donated Le 1 billion to the country’s Free Quality Education program. The donation is a fulfilment of a promise he made in January this year during a meeting with President Julius Maada Bio at the sidelines of the UK-Africa Investment Summit in London.

Rudiger who was born in Germany to Sierra Leonean parents has been involved in the country’s development in the last few years.

During the meeting with Bio in January, Rudiger said “We are here to support your vision and agenda, especially on education. I am ready to take my responsibility to change the narrative and image of Sierra Leone.”

A press statement from the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education on Tuesday thanked Rudiger for the support to education in the country.

The ministry said the fund will be used “MBSSE will work with local stakeholders to use this gift for the development of physical structures linked to science and technical education and learning in Sierra Leone.”

The Free Quality Education is the government’s flagship program. More than two million children in the country are beneficiaries of the policy.
