The Director of Competition at the Sierra Leone Football Association Sorie Ibrahim Sesay has confirmed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has allowed the national football team, Leone Stars to progress to the group stage of the AFCON 2015 qualifiers.
Sesay said "the call came from Hicham El Amrani, Secretary General of CAF to congratulate me with apologies that Match No.42 of the 2015 AFCON has been cancelled and Sierra Leone has progressed to the group stage to face Ivory Coast, Cameroon and DR Congo.
He said, CAF reached the decision after Sierra Leone's football delegation was refused permission to board a flight for Seychelles by authorities at Jomo Kenyatta international airport because they "received an email from the Seychelles immigration authorities asking them not to allow the Sierra Leone delegation to travel.
In an email to the General Secretary of the SLFA, the Seychelles Football Association President, Elvis Chetty said that "the decision to stop the Sierra Leone delegation from entering Seychelles came from the government Seychelles as a precautionary measure against Ebola".
The SLFA has, in a statement issued last evening ordered that the delegation in Kenya and the assistant coach Tom Harris and two players who were already in Seychelles to return home by the next flight.
