Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Rashid Sesay has been unanimously appointed by his colleagues as the new Dean of The African Group of Ambassadors in the gulf country.
The African Group is one of the biggest diplomatic blocs in the country comprising 36 missions. Ambassador Sesay will be leading coordination of their affairs.
At a well-attended event in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, Ghanaian Ambassador Ahmed Ramadan congratulated his colleague on the assumption of the leadership role saying that he was excited about the Sierra Leonean diplomat’s initiatives to make the Group stringer and more effective. He assured that they would support him to deliver on the Group’s mandates.
In his inaugural remarks, Ambassador Sesay thanked his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him to lead the bloc, while noting that with more engagements they could build on the great ideas for the interest of Africa. He also spoke on the strong relationship between the UAE and the African continent.
“We need to continue building on this unity as we can only get better with unity. We all have various skills which we need to bring together for the general good. I look forward to working with everyone,” the new Dean added.
The event was attended by Ambassadors and representatives from twenty-eight African countries.
