There were unusual scenes at the Freetown International Airport at Lungi on Sunday morning when Sierra Leone's Deputy Minister of Finance, Mabinty Daramy was attacked in a love triangle involving Minister of Information, Alpha Kanu.
Admitting that she and the information minister had had a love relationship but that they no longer did, Daramy told Politico that she had gone to the airport to see off her sick pastor, Sukai Madi, when Alpha Kanu was spotted inside the lounge travelling to London.
She said Kanu spoke to her pastor and complained that she (Daramy) was no longer on speaking terms with him. The pastor relayed this message to her and as they were discussing this, Daramy said, an airport security materialised in the lounge with a woman named as Mariama Bah.
Daramy said Kanu expressed shock and surprise at seeing Bah in the lounge and identified her as the woman who had been harassing her for the information minister.
"She hit my head tie and threatened to pour acid on me and even kill me" Mabinty told Politico.
An airport authority source told Politico that an airport security, Dauda Bangura has been suspended pending investigation. Our source said he was not supposed to have allowed inside the airport either Mariama Bah who allegedly posed as Mr Kanu's wife, or even the deputy finance minister who was not a traveller.
Several attempts to reach Alpha Kanu, whose number usually roams, proved futile. Nor could we reach Mariama Bah for her reaction.
