As part of preparations for the African Champions League, Bo Rangers football club has excelled at this year’s West African Champions Cup (WACC) by extending their winning ways in the competition.
The club defeated ASM Sangaredi of Equatorial Guinea 2-0 in Guinea Conakry on Thursday 10th August, 2023. The Sierra Leonean side took the lead in the 32nd minute through Ibrahim Turay and they doubled their advantage in the 85th minute through a strike from Amadu Mansaray.
The win keeps Bo Rangers top of Group A with six points from two matches, two points ahead of second-placed Horoya AC of Guinea.
Bo Rangers were the better team throughout the match and created a number of chances.
ASMS had a few opportunities to score, but they were denied by some good saves from Bo Rangers goalkeeper, Abdul Bundu.
Earlier in the week, Bo Rangers knocked out Guinean heavyweights, AC Horoya on penalties after playing to a 1-1 draw. Horoya opened up the scoring with a goal from Sory Camara in the 29th minute.
Bo Rangers’ Suffian Kalokoh equalized in the 88th minute which left the host team in disappointment. The match ended in a penalty shootout which Rangers won by 4 goals to 3.
The competition attracted one club each from Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Senegal and Mali whilst host country Guinea fielded four clubs.
The four Guinean teams in the tournament are Horoya AC, Hafia FC, Milo FC and Soar AC.
Casa Sport is representing Senegal, L’as Real BKO FC - Mali while Coton FC is from Cameroon.
The tournament started on the 7th August and will last for six days ending on the 13th August, 2023.
The win by Bo Rangers serves as a major confidence boost for the team, who are now favorites to win the 2023 WACC Cup as they prepare for their opening encounter of the CAF Champions League against LISCR FC of Liberia on the 19th August, 2023 at the Southern Arena Stadium in Bo.
