The much-anticipated Sierra Leone Premier League got off on Friday 9th December, 2022 at the Bo coronation stadium where defending champions Bo Rangers hosted this year's debutant Real Republicans.
The match ended with a goal apiece with Republicans first netting only for Rangers to equalize late in the second half.
Rangers goal poacher, Musa Noah Kara (Musa Tombo) whose suspension by the FA for abandoning his club contract in Libya was seen crying in the stadium after his former club drew.
In the other fixture in Port Loko, FC Kallon were held 2 all by Bai Bureh Warriors. Kallon's match was disrupted for few minutes for an alleged cheating after the visitors scored their second goal to lead 2-1 . The game continued after the match commissioner requested for more security presence in the field. After the matcher- commenced, t Warriors equalised for the game to end on 2-2.
In Lungi, East End Lions thrashed another debutant, Lamboi FC by 3 goals to nil. Lions dominated the match, with goals by Sulaiman Kargbo, Mohamed Koroma and Abdul Razak Conteh (Puyol). The hosts had their consolation goal from the penalty spot, thanks to captain, Bashiru Olu Koroma.
In a pre- match interview, Lamboi's captain Koroma told Politico expressed strong commitment from the boys before heading to the match. He said they always described themselves as underdogs before facing any match to ease off pressure.
He further said that, it was that same determination they have before they played their playoff matches that qualified them to the Premier League.
