Provisional data released by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) shows that 3,268,855 (three million, two hundred and sixty eight thousand, eight hundred and fifty five) people were registered nationwide in September and October, in preparation for the country’s 2023 General Elections.
The total figure published excluded under age children and duplicated data that were captured during the registration process.
Out of the total data published for the Southern Region, 141,665 (one hundred and forty one thousand, six hundred and sixty five) new registrants were captured in the data base. Also, a total of 536,109 (five hundred and thirty six thousand, one hundred and nine) people were confirmed to have registered in the past election and 62 (sixty two) under age registration was captured for the region.
For the North-East Region, a total of 540,715 (five hundred and forty thousand, seven hundred and fifteen) people were captured as registrants in the data. However, 95,129 (ninety five thousand, one hundred and twenty nine) new registration was made, while 445,586 (four hundred and forty five thousand, five hundred and eighty six) people were confirmed to have registered and 288 (two hundred and eighty eight) people registered as under age.
The North-West Region saw a total of 478,017 (four hundred and seventy eight thousand and seventeen) people to be captured in the data during the registration exercise. Of that total figure, 89,637 (eighty nine thousand, six hundred and thirty seven) new people were registered and 388,380 (three hundred and eighty eight thousand, three hundred and eighty) confirmation was made for old registrants. 145 (one hundred and forty five) people under age children were also said to be registered in the region.
The Eastern Region registered a total of 645,173 (six hundred and forty five thousand, one hundred and seventy three) people in the data base. Those that are new registrants comprises of a total of 150,799 (one hundred and fifty thousand, seven hundred and ninety nine), while the confirmation figure is 494,374 (four hundred and ninety four thousand, three hundred and seventy four). A total of 73 (seventy three) children were recorded as under age.
The Western Region which covers both the Rural and Urban recorded a total figure of 927,783 (nine hundred and twenty seven thousand, seven hundred and eighty three) in the ECSL data base. A further 54,528 (fifty four thousand, five hundred and twenty eight) new registrants were captured while 873,255 (eight hundred and seventy three thousand, two hundred and fifty five) confirmation was made for old registrants. During the process, 39 (thirty nine) under age registration was made in both the Rural and Urban city of the Western Region.
However, it only remains about two days before the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone could have released the official registration figure when they published the provisional registration data for the forth-coming general elections slated for 26th June, 2023 in the country.
