The Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday summoned some officials of the judiciary of Sierra Leone on the basis of allegations contained in the 2011 auditor general’s report.
Acting Master and Registrar,Yayah Mansaray, a vote controller failed to show up, leaving members of the public accounts committee livid. The committee said they said “Mr. Mansaray has deliberately dodged the committee on several occasions. The judiciary has been playing hide and seek with the committee”.
Deputy speaker and chairman of the committee, Chernor Bah, MP,said the judiciary official, who failed to turn up because he was hospitalized at the Choithrams Hospital, must produce his medical report the following day.
The principal accountant at the judiciary, Festus Kuyembeh, who assumed the position in February 2012 two years after he got the job in 2010, was the only official present before the committee.
When questioned why he only assumed the position after such a long time, he said, it was because of the many public holidays.
Mr. Kuyembeh said, though he was not in office during the time under review he was aware of the report.
The hearing was adjourned to 10 September 2012 and the officials should come with all supporting documents.
