The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) on the 20th December, 2021 led a site visit with construction firms that are interested in bidding for the Lot 1 of the Tinkonko Junction-Matrru Jong Road Project in the Bonthe district.

The engagement includes the Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, civil society representatives, stakeholders from the district council, and traditional authorities.

The meeting was to enable intended bidders to have a proper understanding on the requirements of the bid process and the scope of the work before the submission of their bids.

While addressing the gathering, the Director General of SLRA, Ing. Amara Jambai Kanneh said the event was one of the important stages of the implementation of the project.

Ing. Kanneh reminded stakeholders from the district of President Bio’s commitment to reconstruct the Tikonko Junction-Matrru Jong Road. “We will work very hard for the selected bidders to start work in the first quarter of 2022” he said.

Bonthe District Council’s Chairman, Moses Probyn commended SLRA for their continued efforts in ensuring that the road project is being actualised. The Chairman noted that the meeting is a clear indication and assurance that the road construction will soon commence.

Probyn said the district council will give its fullest supports to any of the firms that will be awarded the contract for the construction of the roads.

The Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Reverend Jonathan Titus Williams said that it has been an age old wish of every indigene for the district’s roads to be constructed.

Reverend Williams encouraged all the potential bid winners to deliver quality and durable work. He urged the bidders to consider the employment and skills development of youths in the district.

The Sierra Leone Roads Authority took along representatives of ten interested firms on a guided tour of stretch of road to be constructed with asphalt from Mattru Jong to Kpetema, during which several clarifications were made based on questions about the project.
