Preparation is gathering pace for the forth-coming Sports Writers Association Sierra Leone (SWASAL) awards night scheduled for 6th December 2013 at the Miatta Conference Hall Brookfields.
At a general meetings held at Harry Yansaneh memorial Hall SWASAL Vice President Abu Bakarr Kanu said that this year’s Awards Night will be a double awards ceremony for 2012 and 2013.
Kanu said the 2012 awards ceremony was cancelled because of the national elections in 2012. He said, "we are going to give sportsmen and women who have done well in 2012 and 2013.
He looked forward to "sport journalists nominating their best players and athletes on or before the 29th October 2013 at SWASAL office” on forms provided by the association.
Kanu said the betting company Mercury International is the lead sponsor but that they are "continuing to engage other business houses and negotiations are in progress."
SWASAL Secretary General Frank Cole stressed that "no journalists who is acting as Public Relations Officer for any sporting discipline will receive an award even if he is the best reporter or writer in the country as it is stated in the Constitution and we are going work by it".
