JUSTICE MOMOH-JAH STEVENS ANSWERS A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION
The world is talking about a video showing great Nigerian musician Tiwa Savage having sex with her friend and many people across Africa are taking the moral high ground, they are criticizing her for this and that. We are not dealing with that issue in this column for now but we just want to tell Tiwa we feel sorry for her and urge her to be strong at a time like this. She was badly betrayed by those she trusted with her life. This can happen to anybody.
We also think Tiwa did a great thing by refusing to yield to the demands of a blackmailer. Had she entered any deal it would have destroyed her reputation and made her unhappy for life. The game is up. Now Tiwa should know how to select and trust friends and above all possibly have sex only in her own environment over which we assume she has absolute control. How about that?
In our High Court the other day Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens told our own equivalent of the guy who leaked Tiwa Savage’s sex tape that he was a NASTY GUY - not in the same words anyway but the judge gave the man some unbelievable kicking after convicting him for sharing a video on social media showing him having sex with his lover.
For some reason the Forest Ranger boyfriend decided to share that video with the lady’s uncle and a former lover with no other intention other than to cause maximum damage to those relationships. Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens has now told some other nasty guys in Sierra Leone that such behavior is unacceptable and it attracts a huge fine and a jail term. Those who think social media means wickedness and total recklessness should now think otherwise.
We congratulate the young woman in Sierra Leone for standing up and seeing this to the end and we urge Tiwa Savage in Nigeria to now challenge that blackmailer and convince a judge to look at the example in Sierra Leone they can put that idiot away for a long time.
POLITICIZING GERMAN IMMIGRATION POLICY IN SALONE WILL NOT WORK
A clear picture is emerging now about the outcome of a somewhat violent demonstration staged by some Sierra Leoneans in Germany against plans by the new government in that country to deport failed asylum seekers and foreign criminals carrying Sierra Leonean passports when they are actually from other West African countries. They have been so identified by a team of experts from Sierra Leone working alongside German agents.
Instead of accepting their fate and returning home in peace, a handful of those facing deportation at the end of their immigration tribunals staged a demonstration against their deportation and accused Principal of working with the government of Germany to send them home. They obviously want to stay abroad.
We have to ask this question after all the talk: why would anybody want to stay in a foreign country without the necessary papers, facing the risk of being picked up from the streets one day and deported?
They are busy spreading lies about the whole affair, telling the world that it was Principal who traveled all the way to Germany to tell the authorities to deport Sierra Leoneans. Why would he do that? Does the man even know those to be deported? We wonder why people fall for that cheap propaganda nonsense.
The deportation exercise from Germany involves people from many countries in Asia, the Middle East, South America and Africa. Thousands are going to be kicked out and the German’s alone can decide who stays in their country. Trying to stay illegally in another man’s country is your funeral. We warn this government not to risk our relationship with Germany and the EU by trying to satisfy those fighting on the streets of Germany instead of begging for mercy.
Now we are beginning to understand why some are sponsoring violence on our streets and staging fake kidnappings just to have something to tell foreigners as a reason for them to stay abroad. Those countries know how to get information about other countries. Don’t waste your time.
As for some of our colleagues in the media back home this is all we can say: when Sierra Leoneans are in difficulty around the world, from Jamaica to the Sahara Desert the same journalists put pressure on the government to bring them home. Why are the same media groups now attempting to blackmail the government of Sierra Leone into refusing to provide the necessary paperwork for failed asylum seekers in Germany to be deported?
GENERAL DEMBY SHOULD NOT GET AWAY WITH THIS OVERREACH
We want General Demby to immediately apologize to the good people of Sierra Leone and reverse his recent decisions in the MoHS - bring back the Chief Medical Officer and allow the postings the CMO did to go through. We will accept Demby’s apology and count this clear overreach as another huge blunder and forgive him.
We are sure he remembers how we forgave him when he allowed himself to be duped by a man posing as a key member of a parliamentary committee that was due to interview and confirm his appointment as minister. How come this man with all his experience in the US offered a gift that had all the hallmarks of a bribe just days before he was due to appear before the parliamentary committee on appointment? That was a huge error of judgement and he knows fully well that if he did that in America he would be denied the job and possibly face prosecution.
What he is doing in the MoHS should be condemned. We have now seen a document clearly showing that those postings were not done by the CMO alone. The man worked with professional colleagues in the best interest of the country. We know this is not about the posting being done while he was away; the real issue is members of his cabal have been moved to areas they don’t want to go. That’s all. How can operations in a ministry with two deputy ministers be grounded just because General Demby is away? Is that fair on the good people of Sierra Leone?
We grumble a lot about the quality of work in our civil service, including the output of the professional class but what do we expect when ministers are constantly interfering with the professionals in our ministries?
Decisions made by civil servants are trashed without consequence and they can be so easily thrown out of office on the directives of a minister. This is sad. We call on Principal to now reinstate the posting done by the CMO, bring the man back to office and properly retire him at his due date and reprimand General Demby for behaving like the MoHS was his vineyard.
KINGHO’S CHANGE OF NAME: IS THERE SOMETHING WE SHOULD KNOW?
So the former Chinese miner has suddenly realized that they need to inject something Sierra Leonean in their name. Why did it take so long? Kingho has been here for some time. Why did they decide to do something about their name only now? We hope it has nothing to do with taxes and other liabilities. We also hope they are not preparing to cut and run by Christmas.
The public relations things about making their operations look and sound Sierra Leonean is noted but what’s happening behind that PR wall? That’s what we are interested in. Anyway, we don’t want to wake up by January 2022 to a new name, LION ROCK MINING.
