IG SOVULA PLEASE DEAL WITH CRIMINAL ACTIVITY AT OLOSHORO NOW
Here we are again calling the attention of the great IG of the Force for Good to another criminal hotspot. We have been complaining about groups of boys that operate along Campbell Street in the western part of Freetown, stealing from cars parked along that road in broad daylight. In some cases they have stolen the cars. They mostly operate out of those lanes leading into Campbell Street – Peter Lane, John Lane, Edward Lane and Benjamin.
We recently witnessed one of them being captured and beaten up for stealing a car battery. He was taken to a shanty dwelling at the junction of John Lane where he hid the battery. The battery was recovered from among many other stolen items in a compound full of people. Those people should never tell us they have no idea they are living with criminals. We thought a police officer that was around on that day would call for more officers for the place to be raided. The officer simply left the scene.
Today we are calling attention to the Oloshoro general area in Murray Town, running up to Banana Water. Lawlessness is growing in this area and the police must pay attention. These days we hear of people being attacked by criminals wielding machetes in the early evenings and mornings. In one recent incident, a man was badly wounded by the thieves.
IG Sovula should know that criminals have withdrawn to these little dark corners and are unleashing acts of terror on the ordinary people going about their normal lives. We want the Force for Good to arrest and put these criminal away with the help of the judiciary for a long time. Please take them to BONTHE PRISON. Pademba road is beginning to look like some five star hotel for them. Good Luck IG Sovula.
ANOTHER BLACK MAN SHOT BY POLICE IN THE US: WHAT’S REALLY HAPPENING?
Another city in the US is in the grip of BLACK LIVES MATTER demonstrations following the shooting of another black man. As a consequence of those demonstrations two other people were killed for which a SEVENTEEN year old has been charged with murder. People are marking and protesting at a clear case of the US police resorting to using their guns at the slightest provocation. In this latest affair, Blake was shot SEVEN times as he tried to get into his car. We don’t know what explanation would eventually come out of all of this as to why the officer thought he needed to fire SEVEN shots at a man going into a car. We also don’t know if the officer who fired those shots will be arrested and charged.
Meanwhile the parents of Mr. Blake are telling the world he may be permanently paralyzed. Once again we have to ask whether there is no other way to restrain and arrest people suspected of committing a criminal offence.
We hear that this is all down to racial injustice. The country is now gearing up for elections in November and we will be observing how much an issue like this helps to define the contest and the eventual outcome.
America cannot continue like this. The whole world is looking up to America for everything, including, democracy, human rights, protection of civil liberties and media freedom. The signals we are getting from these days are not so clear.
HOW MANY SCHOOLS HAVE INTERNET FACILITIES NOW O SALCAB?
We need some progress report on the work SALCAB has been doing to put about ONE THOUSAND schools online. The good people of Sierra Leone, the owners of SALCAB deserve some clarity because our information is that less than 100 schools have experienced any form of connectivity. Surely this is very far off the mark and even those that experienced something have told us their connectivity is extremely shaky.
For now we are humbly asking on behalf of the good people of Sierra Leone for SALCAB to talk to us about this project. We also want to know something about connectivity on school buses. We read some sporadic reports about a few buses being connected using modems from a mobile phone company. Is that what we bargained for?
So as we established earlier, we are asking SALCAB to update the nation on these issues. At that point we will be able to try and corroborate some information we have picked up from our usually reliable sources in the best interest of this Land that we Love. We are waiting in this little corner.
OPERATION RESTORE ORDER HAS TOTALLY COLLAPSED
The much trumpeted campaign by the Police to stop commercial drivers from cheating passengers through the usual habit of dropping them half way through their journey in order to corruptly make more money has turned out to be a big disappointment for the people. Operation Restore Order as the campaign was dubbed by the police has become a farce. As they say, old habits die hard, and the drivers are just about making themselves irrational again and they feel quite at ease dropping passengers at places of their own choosing, in clear violation of the Transport Ministry’s regulation.
What has shocked commuters is the apparent lack of action by the police to ensure compliance to an order they were moving from one news outlet to another to tell the public about. Cheating of passengers by drivers has become a habitual thing in the east of Freetown. People travelling between the Bombay-Kissy- Wellington on to Waterloo route have been going through hell and the when news of Operation Restore Order broke, people gave thumbs up to the police. In less than three weeks, things are reversing to their ugly old very self.
And these are mostly the working class who suffer body and soul to have their families provided with something on the table. On hindsight the celebration could be seen as premature as unfolding happenings have proven lately. People argue that there is a bond between these drivers and the police that may look somehow surreal but quite in existence.
The Drivers’ Union has been a disappointment too; their president spoke about collaboration with the police to get their members adhere to the regulations but the union’s president Alpha Amadu Bah seems not to be capable enough to influence his members to change their bad habit that is affecting passengers so much. And the man sits on the Board of the Road Safety Authority! Really?
The zest shown by the cops earlier has dissipated and the drivers are having a field day again. This very week we’ve got first hand evidences of flagrant fleecing of passengers by these rogue drivers as the cops look the other way.
What is happening in this our country? Why attempts to ensure compliance with regulations hardly last? All blame for the collapse of operation restore order should lie squarely on the shoulders of our police. When will the madness in this our transport system in Freetown end?
SLFA EXXECUTIVE HIDING BEHIND TO STAY IN OFFICE
We have now reached a point in this SLFA debacle where the government of Sierra Leone should go back to FIFA and tell them that we cannot have an administration that was elected for FOUR years, continuously perpetuating themselves in office by clutching at all kinds of straws like a drowning man. How is it that The Queen has been allowed to do almost TWO TERMS now without any serious challenge? We want answers.
COVID – 19 has provided her another opportunity to delay calling an elective congress yet SLFA operatives are all over the place holding functions attended by a huge number of people, far above the required number specified by NACOVAC. How can they justify their continued hold on power by shouting COVID – 19? FIFA secretariat is operating well but they are encouraging SLFA to keep doing MORE TIME. This is a recipe for chaos. In fact it’s almost as if the so-called Football Stakeholders have gone mute.
Frankly, we thought that at the expiration of her real mandate, well controversial as that was, The Queen would now form a broad-based administration, bringing together people from the other side of this SLFA divide so that together they can have a stake in football administration and run the game. Instead The Queen has further monopolized power and is now busy spending big to buy loyalty and votes. We are heading for serious confusion in SLFA and unnecessary disruption of football.
This is now at the doorstep of this government. We have the biggest stake in this game and we DID NOT ELECT FIFA to run Sierra Leone.
