The Ministry of Sports (MOS) together with the National Sports Authority (NSA) have in a press statement urged the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to present findings of their investigations of the Eastern Region Football Association (ERFA) Super Ten League Matches not later than Wednesday, 31st August 2022 or face serious actions.
The country’s football governing body was also ordered to immediately put on hold the National Playoffs for promotion to the Premier League that are about to commence.
The investigation was a result of matches played in the Eastern Region that were alleged to have been fixed which saw Kahunla Rangers defeat Lumbembu United in Kono 95-0 and Gulf Fc beating Koquima Lebanon FC in Kono 91-1.
According to a statement from NSA, SLFA had on the 4th July 2022 in a press release promised to investigate ERFA, all the officials that officiated the said matches, and players of both teams. It further stated that the SLFA’s release had assured the general public that they will thoroughly investigate the matches and promise to bring to book those that would be found culpable of match-fixing, citing the SLFA Code of Ethics.
SLFA was urged to set aside interested parties they mentioned in their press release, until after the conclusion of investigations.
SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima was heard on BBC outrightly condemning the results of those matches and assured Sierra Leoneans of an immediate investigation. The Sports Ministry and NSA also came out corroborating the actions of SLFA to investigate the results.
The National Sports Authority’s mandate is to encourage, promote, regulate and supervise all sporting activities in Sierra Leone.
