Union of Academic staff associations calls for urgent membership resolutions

By Chernor Alimamy Kamara

Following receipt and dissemination of the correspondence from the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) regarding the Ministry's position on concerns raised by the Union of Academic Staff Associations (UASA), the Union has called on its membership to harvest their responses and resolutions with timelines.

UASA held a retreat in Bo on 28 – 29 September 2023 and dialogue sessions at the Family Kingdom Resort in Freetown on 30 October and 1 November, where they expressed several concerns about the ministry.

To further pursue the outcome of the retreat and the dialogue session, the National President of UASA, Dr. Abdul Mbawa directed constituent Associations to circulate the Ministry's letter among their members. He urged the various constituent Associations to forward the resolutions to the UASA National President through the Secretariat on or before Monday, 13 November, 2023.

In a short notice issued 4 October, 2023 by the Union’s Secretariat, it stated that based on the reactions and resolutions reached by the membership of the individual institutions,  UASA will compare/contrast and take a decision regarding the next steps to have their concerns addressed with the seriousness and urgency they deserve.

UASA ended by imploring the timely compliance of every member association on this matter.
