Sierra Leone has failed to qualify for the Beach Volleyball Championship to be held in Holland this year. Patrick Lombi and Abubakarr Kamara from Sierra Leone are reported to have performed well in the qualifying rounds of the African Senior Youth Beach Volleyball World Championship taking place in Tunis.
With the competition now in its final stages, Sierra Leone, was drawn alongside South Africa (the tournament top-ranked team) Morocco, Nigeria, Ghana and Niger in Pool (A).
Sierra Leone lost their first two matches in a very bad weather against Nigeria 2-0 Set, (21-16 and 21-14) and against South African 2-1 set (21-11, 12-18 and 15 -8), Lombi And Bakarr came back strong to beat Niger 2-0 set 21-14 and 21-16.
In the last group matches against Morocco and Ghana, Sierra Leone were defeated 2-0 21-16 and 21-17 and 2-1 set in favour of Ghana. These result means that Sierra Leone has missed out on one of the four slots available for the Beach Volleyball championship to be held in Holland.
After finishing 5th in their group behind South Africa, Ghana, Morocco and Nigeria, the Sierra Leone team was paired with ivory coast for the start of the classification matches which Sierra Leone won by 2-0 sets 21 -11 and 21-12. The semi finals of the classification ranking matches continue tomorrow.
