World Vision helps with Ebola fight

By Allieu Sahid Tunkara

World Vision Sierra Leone was at the Emergency Operation Centre at WHO headquarters in Freetown on Tuesday to make a donation of Le 300 million towards efforts against the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone.

The organisation’s director, Leslie Scott, said their major areas of intervention in the national fight against the haemorrhagic fever were prevention measures and awareness-raising.

“My organisation will provide support in the areas of community surveillance, contact-tracing, social mobilisation, targeting mothers and kids’ groups,” he said, adding that the fight was indeed a national one and therefore assured of their continued work in the east and south of the country.

“We are well established in Bo, Pujehun, Kono and Bonthe, and are ready to assist the country in the fight against the disease,” he explained, and urged the health minister, Miatta Kargbo, to consult with them on further assistance and coordination.

Scott handed over the cheque to Kargbo who thanked World Vision for their “timely donation to the national fight.”

She said together with her ministry they would quickly strategise through the provision of vehicles and motor cycles.
