East End Lions captain, Yeami Dunia has on Wednesday 24th November this year resigned his position from the club.
“I have been attacked by fans when the team failed to register a win in matches,” the fullback said in his resignation letter to the Secretariat of the club.
Lions, who have been topping the Sierra Leone Premier League for months now dropped points, first with a 1 all draw against bottom club Mount Aureol SLIFA and recently lost by a goal to nil against Central Parade.
The killers have won only once in their last five matches drawing thrice.
They narrowly beat out-of-form and 14th place Ports Authority by a goal to nil when the two clashed in a scintillating display of talent at the National Stadium on the 24th of October this year.
The poor run of form in the two matches sees Bo Rangers leap past Lions to the top by two points as the curtain draws down on the first round of the League.
Lions’ fans have been on the rampage for their poor run of results lately. Some of the players and members of the Technical Team were attacked after their draw with Mount Aureol SLIFA.
The latest victim was Dunia who missed both matches with an injury.
In a video making rounds on social media, a Lions fan was seen making verbal abuse against the fullback while accusing him of feigning injury to avoid playing for the club.
Dunia, who has been in a top form for the National Team, Leone Stars, said that his focus is on international duties at present.
The fullback was part of the squad that played in the Leone Stars’ African Cup of Nations (AfCON) Cameroon Qualifiers which saw Sierra Leone finish second to Nigeria and granted them a place in the competition next year in January after a 25-year absence.
The defender dispelled rumours of him joining any team sooner by admitting that he is yet to decide where he will trade his career next.
The resignation of the Killers’ star player leaves some fans in shock as the club is looking forward to defending their silverware against big spenders Bo Rangers.
