Since Sierra Leone recorded its first case of COVID-19 in March 2020, the NRA has had to rearrange its operations for revenue generation. Even though this rearrangement has had some minor operational implications, it has not been enough to inflict a complete breakdown within the institution.

As a response mechanism, the NRA instituted social distancing arrangements to limit contact among the staff and between them and the general public.

In Sierra Leone, an unlikely ‘voice of the voiceless’ has survived as a self-styled political and social commentator. Adebayor, as he calls himself, is known for integrating vulgar, explicit, and obscene languages when sharing his thoughts on issues of national discourse. His contents are largely considered as weighted with a staunch sense of incitement in addition to invectives.

Dr Evans Majani Liyosi is the Country Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Sierra Leone.

In this interview with Politico, he spoke about the UN health agency’s role in the country’s response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

In the early days of Sierra Leone’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a seeming sense of panic, especially for businesses and the economy. Before then, the country’s growth looked really promising, but with Corona came grim predictions which suggested that things could get really bad.

Hoarding, price hikes and concerns about a possible shortage of foreign currency and goods were rife. But it seems Sierra Leone has gone through the worse in the last three months and things can only get better.

A Police officer orders all passengers onboard a vehicle to get down and wash their hands. Hand washing is one of many routines practiced to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

But like in many other makeshift checkpoints across Sierra Leone, there was no thermometer and there were barely enough soap for every passenger in the vehicle to wash their hands.

March 20^: The Government of Sierra Leone announces plans to save the economy from the effect of the Coronavirus. “We are discussing the possibility of tax deferrals, tax   breaks and cuts,” Minister of Finance, Jacob Jusu Saffa says in a press conference.

Sierra Leone is no exception to contentions between science and politics over COVID-19, the global pandemic that has infected nearly 12 million people and claimed more than 542,000 lives across the world as of this week.

However, Sierra Leone, like many other African countries, is an exception to the exponential growth of coronavirus cases seen daily in countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil and Russia.
