Magistrate to discharge Sumaila town murder due to lack of a witness

A Magistrate in Freetown has promised to discharge a murder Preliminary Investigation (PI) after the prosecution failed to present their first witness for three consecutive hearings.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mark Ngegba, said this at the Pademba Road Court No.1 on Thursday 28th September 2023, after the acting police prosecutor, Sergeant Momoh Lahai applied for adjournment of the PI informing the court that there was no witness.

UADF partners visit communication facilities across the country

A team from Tanzania’s Universal Communication Services Access Fund (UCSAF) has visited communication facilities managed by their Sierra Leonean counterparts in parts of the country.

Senior officials of Universal Access Development Fund (UADF) Sierra Leone took their guests to computer labs at the Queen of the Rosary Senior Secondary School in Bo and the Government Secondary School for Boys to apprise them about the progress of the pupils in using computers and the internet.

Sierra Leone judge sets free 59 prisoners

A Supreme Court Judge, Justice Alusine Sesay has during the review of cases presided over and determined by Magistrates, dubbed the prison court, released a total of 59 prisoners.

44 of the released convicts were from the Mafanta, and 15 From Makeni Correctional Centres in Northern Sierra Leone.

The convicts were charged with various offences.

The 44 from Mafanta were part of a total of 104 cases. 17 of which were from Freetown, 4 from Sefadu, 75 from Makeni, 6 from Kabala, 1 from Waterloo and 1 from Magburuka.  

Taxi drivers prosecuted for importation of KUSH

 Idrissa Jalloh and Mamadou Samba Jalloh as the third and fourth accused respectively are among the other three accused being prosecuted for the importation of a substance suspected to be used in the manufacturing of the prohibited drug, Kush.

The accused appeared before Magistrate Mark Ngegba at the Pademba Road Court NO.1 last Wednesday, 20th September 2023.

Bio commits to uphold international peace, security

Prosecution delays Sumaila Town murder case

After two consecutive hearings without presenting the prosecution witness,   Magistrate Mark Ngegba last Friday expressed his dismay over the delay in the Preliminary Investigations (PI) of a murder case at Court No.1 in Freetown.

He said the matter is a fresh one, but that the prosecution had not proceeded with even their first witness.

The Acting Prosecutor, Police Sergeant Lahai M, while applying for another adjournment, was unable to tell the court the reason for the absence of their witnesses.
