Man remanded for robbery in Sierra Leone

Appearing for the second time in court, 25-year old Abdulai Fornah has been remanded until the next adjourned date for allegedly robbing one Abass Bangura with violence.

He was being tried on a two-count charge of committing felony and robbery with violence.

Statement of offence was that the accused, on 23 March this year, used violence to rob the complainant of his money along East Brook Lane in central Freetown.

Koidu road works in limbo

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Housing and Infrastructure has told the people of the eastern Sierra Leone district of Kono that his ministry is “seriously disappointed” by Well Guico formerly Well Group Serra Leone Limited, in charge of the reconstruction of the 20-kilometer road in the district headquarter town of Koidu.

Augustine Sahr Sheku says the company has not done “enough” on the road work after almost two years since the contract was awarded.

Fire in Sorogbema

A huge fire has broken out and gutted some 37 makeshift stores containing an unspecified number of bags of rice belonging to farmers of Sengama village, Sorogbema chiefdom in the southern Sierra Leone district of Pujehun.

The incident started when a young man set fire to a farmland just few meters away from the settlement. Residents have blamed it on strong wind.

The local Member of Parliament, Sidi Yayah Tunis of Constituency 91 visited the area on the following day and gave some support to people displaced by the incident. He has launched a formal appeal for assistance.
