Police has blamed yesterday’s ill-fated killings, by its officers of two young men suspected to be armed robbers in Wellington, on a vigilante group that was formed to man the area following recent spate of armed robberies.

“I am not sure and no police has confirmed whether police was informed about the setting up of vigilante group in the area. In fact we don’t have vigilante in our community policing. What we have are community safety volunteers,” said police spokesman Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ibrahim Samura.

United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Michael Owen, has signed grant agreements totaling USD 60,000 with five human rights and media organisations to support democracy and human rights in the country.

Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC has unravelled potential corruption hotspots in the free healthcare delivery, a scheme conceived and implemented by the current government to cut down on the alarming rate of deaths among women and children.

The National Anti Corruption Strategy, NACS, has formed integrity committees at the Makeni City and Bombali District Councils in in line with provisions of the Revised National Anti-Corruption Strategy (RNACS) 2011-2013.

Regional manager north, Patrick Sandi, assured that the efforts would mark another milestone in the Commission’s fight against corruption.

He noted that the committees would be charged with the responsibility of addressing corruption issues in the Action Plans with the aim of minimising incidences of corruption in the councils.

The Association of Sierra Leone Journalists In exile (ASALJIE) in Sydney, Australia has supported several media houses with Laptops, Solar Lamps and a complete set of Encyclopedia. This was made possible through the involvement of David Tam-Baryoh and Alpha Rashid Jalloh, both journalists working in Freetown.
