Youth minister urges youth to embrace agriculture

In order to match growing entrepreneurship standards, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Mohamed ‘Orman’ Bangura has urged the youths of Sierra Leone to embrace agriculture which he said is the present and future of the country.

The minister was speaking at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s usual press briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s conference hall at Tower Hill on the 15th of August, 2023.

UN Women calls for a united movement of women in Sierra Leone

For women to have one voice in their activities, UN Women Sierra Leone in a one-day consultative meeting with a network of women’s rights groups and activists has called on women’s groups to merge forces in a united front that will represent the voices of women and girls in Sierra Leone.

The deliberations of the meeting were made public in a radio interview with the Organization’s Head in Sierra Leone, Setcheme Jeronime M. Mongbo, and Programme Specialist, Baindu Massaquoi on the 16th of August 2023.

Labor Ministry refutes fake job advert

Two Majors, Captain, six others WANTED in Sierra Leone over alleged military coup

Just over a week after the Sierra Leone Police announced the arrest of some 18 people suspected of subversive activities against the state, the law enforcement body on Tuesday 15th August formally declared 9 military and police personnel Wanted.

A bounty of 10,000 (ten thousand) New Leones is being offered to anyone who will provide information leading to the arrest of any of the suspects.

KKY leaves NGC party in Sierra Leone

The 2018 presidential candidate of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) party, Dr Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (KKY) has sent a message to the party’s elders, which one of them has described as “cryptic” and another as “a resignation from the party”.

Sources within the party have confirmed to Politico that the 64-year-old sent a message to their Strategic Alliance Forum WhatsApp Group, which one of them referred to as “short but telling” in which he apparently resigned from the party.

MP wants more mental hospitals in Sierra Leone

Member of Parliament from Kailahun District, Bernadette Wuyata Songa, has emphasized the need to have mental health facilities established in all the regions and for 3% of the budget on health to be dedicated to addressing mental health issues.

Songa made this call on the 14th of August 2023 whilst debating President Julius Maada Bio’s speech at the State Opening of the Sixth Parliament.
