The recent media frenzy around one of the leading commercial banks in Sierra Leone appears to have died down following the release of a report by the Anti-Corruption Commission following a rather lengthy investigation into alleged wrongdoing in the procurement of vehicles for the bank.

NSA Executive Director highlights first 100 days in office

In order to mark his first 100 days after being appointed Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai told Journalists at a news conference in Freetown on Monday that they have drafted the National Sports Development Foundation regulations and engaged various national sports organizations for their inputs.
He added that they have also engaged the NSOs on the draft Anti-doping Authority and the position of trust.
Treason trial to sum up next week

Presiding Judge, Komba Kamanda at the ongoing treason trial has promised to do a summing up of the case next week after instructing the prosecution and defence lawyers to do their closing addresses on Thursday, July 18th, 2024.
Addressing the court on Monday, 15th July, he warned that by all means prosecution should roundoff on Thursday and that the defence should do theirs same day, but if they do not complete that day, it should be finished by Friday.
This will be followed by juror’s verdict.

Emerson Lamina calls out Guinea on Yenga at ECOWAS
A Sierra Leonean Member of the ECOWAS Parliament has called on Guinea to return complete territorial ownership of the disputed town of Yenga to Sierra Leone. The small town in the eastern district of Kailahun has been a source of disagreement between the two countries for more than 20 years.

Foreign Affairs wants financial autonomy

“Our problem as a ministry is that we are not a self-accounting ministry. I have not seen it anywhere, where a foreign ministry is not in charge of their own finances. Please add your voice to my voice so we can be self-accountable,” she said.
