A coalition of civil society organizations has in a position paper dated 5tgh August 2024 urged the government of Sierra Leone to improve transparency and accountability in public debt management.
The paper highlights critical reforms needed in the 2011 Public Debt Management Act to ensure responsible borrowing and sustainable development.

President Julius Maada Bio has said that Karene and Falaba Districts will soon get Special Care Baby Units at their public maternity hospitals. He made this statement on the 6th August 2024 at the State Opening of the second session of the sixth parliament.
Bio whilst speaking on strides made in the health sector stated that the government’s initiatives in healthcare have led to significant improvements in child and maternal health.

The Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs (MLGCA) has completed a process of assessing all 22 Local Councils in the country and working on providing data that will speak on how councils are performing based on the assessment tool.
In a media interview, Local Government Minister, Tamba Lamina on the 6th August, 2024, stated that the assessment is not to name and shame any council but to know how they performed and delivered and the support they will need to progress in their service delivery.

Reacting to President Julius Maada Bio’s Speech at the Sixth Opening of Parliament, Mathew Nyuma and Abdul Kargbo- Majority and Minority leaders, respectively have both urged citizens to refrain from issues that undermine national security.
At the weekly government press briefing Nyuma said the first two paragraphs of Bio’s speech mentioned national unity through collaboration, and the MP condemned faceless protests, saying that people use the cyber space to call for nationwide protests without following due processes.

The Chairperson, Committee on Gender and Children’s Affairs in Parliament, Cathrine Zainab Tarawally has said Parliament will work to ensure that they pass a law that will increase maternal leave from 3 to six months.
Tarawally was speaking at the Atlantic Hotel on 31stb July, ahead of the commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week, which commenced on the 1st of August, and to end on 7th August next week.
