Defence Minister donates Christmas gifts to patients in 34 military hospital

The Defence Minister, Retired Brigadier General Kellie Hassan Conteh, has on behalf of his ministry donated provisions and cash to admitted patients at the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown.

The gifts donated include milk, mayonnaise, cocoa powder, spaghetti among others.

 The presentation ceremony held on Thursday 15th December, 2022 saw the minister handing over the packages of the gifts and cash to each of the patients of the wards visited.

Chief wants reclamation of pits left behind by mining activity

Chief of Makorkie Chiefdom in Port Loko District Bai Forkie Fainka II has called on the Minister of Mines of Mineral Resources Timothy Kabba to ensure that the over ten thousand pits that he claimed were left open by Sierramin Bauxite the former mining company be covered.

He revealed that as a result of the mining activities by the company, the community presently has those many pits. The chief stated that he is aware that mining companies have an account set aside to make sure holes dug are refilled.

Kenema gets two new Markets

As part of supporting decentralized service delivery, the Kenema District Council with support from European Union has commissioned two modern markets. 

The facilities which were commissioned on the 13th December 2022 in Tongo in the Lower Bambara Chiefdom and Blama in the Small Bo Chiefdom Kenema district included rice milling machines. 

RSLAF top brass meet on improving capability

170 disabled children empowered with assistive materials

In a bid to empower 170 children and youngsters with disabilities, the Dorothy Springer Trust (DST) has joined One Family People (OFP) through support from Lillian Foundation in providing assistive technology devices, learning materials, and home care items, to the young people.

Presentation of the items which took place on Wednesday December 14 at the Freetown Cheshire Home, Cline Town in Freetown, is the last quarterly assistance for 2022.

ACC generates 5 billion new Leones from corruption fines

The Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) has pver the last three years recovered 5 billion Leones through fines levied against persons found culpable by the commission’s Court.

The Judiciary in a press release this week said the ACC court the first in the region specializing in Anti –Corruption cases, processed forty-seven cases in 2021, completing twenty-four of them.

Twenty-seven persons were found guilty and were ordered to pay fines that went into the Consolidated Fund.
