Deputy Leader of the Opposition Daniel B. Koroma has blamed Parliament for the country’s accountability issues despite the constitution empowering parliament to address such issues.

The MP made this statement on the 18^th January 2024, whilst debating passionately on the bill entitled ‘National Monitoring and Evaluation Agency Act (NMEA) 2023’; and Koroma said “If parliament is made right, in less than six months this country will turn to paradise”.

The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Wang Qing has stated that his country is committed to capacitating the Sierra Leone Police with equipment.

Wang made this statement in his visit, together with the Sandong Police College team, to the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu at his George Street office, in Freetown on 17^th January this year.

During a draft report discussion held by stakeholders, UN Women validated a report on how women faired in the 2023 multi-tier elections in Sierra Leone.

The discussion was held at the Sierra Palms Hotel in Freetown on the 18^th of January 2024.

Poor public services in many West African countries, with already dire human development indicators, are under constant pressure from pervasive corruption. Observers say graft is corroding proper governance and causing growing numbers of people to sink into poverty.

“If you want to put a human face to corruption… then see how we have kids who walk miles to school because there are no public transport systems,” said Harold Aidoo, the executive director of the Institute for Research and Democratic Development in Monrovia, the Liberian capital.

The Police Local Unit Commander Chief Superintendent  Abu Bakarr Magona in Kambia has confirmed reports of the alleged deaths of two girls after initiation into the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) dubbed Bondo Society in Kambia District. 

The LUC said that a post-mortem examination has already been conducted on the two corpses and have been handed over to the families for funeral rites.

The latest 2022 national audit report shows that Government lost a total revenue of NLe38, 226, 990 million.

According to the report, these monies were lost due to non-compliance with clauses in contract agreements between some companies and various Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).

The Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Teachers' Union, Foday Kuyateh says their members are concerned over the new system of having to write a special examination before they can get given a license to practice.

Speaking to Politico, the Secretary General quoted his members as saying that they are not familiar with subjects like ICT.
