Sierra Leone president vows to firmly address coup attempt

In a nationwide address on 2nd December 2023, President Julius Maada Bio expressed his government’s determination to deal with what he said was an attempted coup. The President was speaking after a spate of armed attacks rocked parts of Freetown in the early hours of Sunday 26th November.

President Julius Maada Bio has told mourners at an interfaith funeral for 18 security personnel killed during the November 26 attacks in Freetown that their deaths will not go in vain.

The President told hundreds of grieving family members at the country’s military headquarters-Cockrill in Freetown, Wednesday that ‘’your pain is our pain’’ and that ‘’your quest for justice is our mission today’’. He said the time for silence is over and his government’s “pursuit for justice will be tireless and unyielding’’.

Sierra Leone New York Chancery building trial: Nallo denies awarding contract

First accused, Saidu Nallo in an ongoing corruption trial regarding the renovation of Sierra Leone’s UN Chancery Building in New York has testified that he was never involved in the awarding of any contract for renovation of the structure.

Nallo told the court on Wednesday 6th December 2023, that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Freetown, which is the headquarters ‘’micromanage’’ such an action.

“She hit me with a shovel” – complainant tells court

Naasu Ensah, the complainant in an ongoing wounding and assault case at a Magistrate’s court in Freetown has testified that while she was fighting with the second of two accused persons, Boitia Petan Sandi( daughter of the first accused) the first accused, Dr. Salmata Ibrahim “stabbed” her on the forehead with a shovel multiple times.

Kenema Judge commits to completing hearings in 3 months

The High Court Judge for Kenema and Kailahun district, Justice Francis Bans-Kamara has vowed to complete matters brought under his court during his tenure within three months.

He resumed court sitting at the Kenema Judicial High Court on the 4th of December 2023.

SLESHI promotes health insurance scheme

The Sierra Leone Social Health Insurance (SLeSHI) has engaged stakeholders from the Kono, Kailahun, and Kenema districts in popularizing an insurance health scheme for the citizenry.

The event was held at the Kenema District Council Hall on the 1st December 2023.

The Director-General of SLeSHI, Dr. Michael Amara said the engagement was to inform the people about the health insurance package that has been developed that will address various conditions and illnesses of clients.
