New-look Leone Stars off to Morocco

 

The National Football team is heading out to Morocco to join several other countries taking part in two friendly matches each during the FIFA approved international break.

Leone Stars will play against Benin and Somalia on the 14th and 17th October respectively as they prepare for the start of the world cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and Egypt in November next month.

Star Sports Academy partners with Antalyaspor FC

In an effort to expose Sierra Leoneans talents to the World, Star Sport Academy management has signed a partnership deal with Turkish topflight league side Antalyaspor FC.

The signing agreement was held at the Sense Hotel in Antalya, Turkey on the   31st August 2023. 

Bo Rangers to face Algerian side

Bo Rangers have been paired with Algerian side, CR Belouizdad in the second round of the CAF Champions League after eliminating Liberia’s, LISCR FC 2-1 on aggregate.

An early goal from striker Suffian Kalokoh gave Rangers a vital 1-0 away win against LISCR FC in Monrovia on the 27th August, 2023 to advance to the next round of the CAF Champions League. They were held to a 1-1 score line at the Southern Arena in Bo on 19th August in the 1st leg.

3 Star Sports Academy players on trial in Turkey

In order to start their professional career overseas, three players from the Star Sports Academy have left Sierra Leone for trials in Turkey. 

The  players are; right back Edward Bello Yilla, defensive midfielder, Senesis Janneh, and center back, Marvin Lebbie.

Keister admits to Leone Stars’ poor performance

The Head Coach of the male National Football Team, Leone Stars, John Edward Keister has taken full responsibility for the poor performance of the team since his appointment.

Speaking in a radio interview on the 13th August, 2023 Keister acknowledged responsibility for whatever is happening in the team in terms of performance, but admitted he had to manage the players that are available for selection.

Sierra Leone Premier League Champs excel in West Africa Champions Cup

As part of preparations for the African Champions League, Bo Rangers football club has excelled at this year’s West African Champions Cup (WACC) by extending their winning ways in the competition.

The club defeated ASM Sangaredi of Equatorial Guinea 2-0 in Guinea Conakry on Thursday 10th August, 2023. The Sierra Leonean side took the lead in the 32nd minute through Ibrahim Turay and they doubled their advantage in the 85th minute through a strike from Amadu Mansaray.
