Barack Obama gave an excellent speech at Madiba's funeral ceremony on Tuesday. He has some of the best speech writers in the world and the guy is a master of the big occasions. He loves addressing big crowds and taking on entrenched vested interests. Here we quote a few lines from that speech that we have read over and over again.

If Mandela were a Sierra Leonean politician!

The world has been in mourning since president Jacob Zuma of South Africa went on radio and television and announced the death of Nelson Mandela. To be honest, the announcement didn't come as much of a surprise because the great man had been very ill for some time and it's almost as if everybody was just waiting for the message Zuma delivered last Thursday night. South Africa and the world will never be the same.

THIRD TERM AGENDA CASTS A LONG SHADOW ONCE AGAIN

When the idea of a possible third-term bid was mentioned not too long ago by Logus, there was a universal outcry against any attempt to throw Sierra Leone into confusion with such a move. It grew so intense that State House was compelled to issue a weak and largely non-committal statement to deny what Logus, who led the Red Movement campaign, had told many radio stations.

Finally the people in those two disputed constituencies in Kailahun and Kenema have MPs. But there are many questions and the situation is bizarre and we don't want to "HOLD OURSELVES OUT" as the journalists who questioned the decisions of a High Court judge.

Look what we have here people: a lawyer looks set to be in the dock soon facing a possible public order charge. We are putting the details together as required by our House Style before publication but it's already in the public domain that a lawyer confronted a magistrate within the precincts of the court  in a manner unbecoming of a lawyer and the CID is now involved.
