CORONAVIRUS WAR GETTING SERIOUS AS CURFEW TAKES HOLD IN KAMBIA

The whole country has just come back from a three-day lockdown, a break that the authorities say they needed to trace all contacts related to confirmed COVID 19 cases we have in this country. It wasn’t easy at all for many people. The truth is most of those we spoke to before and during the lockdown told us they appreciated what the government was doing so far to fight the Coronavirus and that the lockdown was a key weapon in that fight.

CORONAVIRUNS LANDS IN SIERRA LEONE AT ALST

It didn’t come as a surprise to many Sierra Leoneans when Principal announced to the world that we now have a positive coronavirus test. Principal himself said a few weeks back that it was now only a question of WHEN not IF the virus will strike this country. That WHEN question has now been answered. The date is Tuesday 31st March, 2020. It now goes into our history books as the day coronavirus hit Sierra Leone, despite our best efforts to stop it.

LAND BORDERS ARE FINALLY CLOSED SO WHAT NEXT?

Our land borders with Guinea and Liberia are not open to human traffic for the next THIRTY DAYS at least. Principal closed the borders just as Kotor Juldeh was completing a whirlwind tour of the borders to inspire personnel of the agencies deployed there in the struggle to keep the coronavirus out of Sierra Leone. Principal was himself out there in the early days to test our bulwark against the dreaded virus.

DECONGEST YOUYI BUILDING IMMEDIATELY

The protocols dictated to us to help fight the Coronavirus is the same as those we used in 2014 against the Ebola Virus Disease which killed over FOUR THOUSAND Sierra Leoneans. There is this strong emphasis on personal hygiene. Frankly, this is something we really don’t need to wait for any virus to alert us to nor do we need the state or WHO to tell us about it. The reality however is that we must deal with the situation we have at hand right now.
