Every time I drive pass two particular locations in Freetown, I really feel sorry for humanity. There is what is effectively a camp for people living with disability and mental health on Pademba road near the burnt out and decrepit facilities of the former Public Works Department. That camp holds more than a hundred people living with disability and their families and dependents.

PRINCIPAL PLEASE CREATE A MINISTRY FOR LAW AND ORDER

On behalf the decent and hardworking people of Sierra Leone we call on Principal to hurriedly create a MINISTRY for LAW and ORDER. Whether he does that as part of a wider reshuffle of government or not is not our primary concern. We’ve been hearing a lot about a coming reshuffle but while he thinks about that Principal must make a big statement about his commitment to end lawlessness in this country by creating this ministry right now.

WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH THE MARITIME OFFICE?

So we don’t know why the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration office in Freetown has become this very productive hunting ground for the Anti-Corruption Commission. Whenever they cast their net around that place they get a good catch. Like everybody else we believe that recently arrested and those charged are totally not guilty until the courts decide otherwise but that doesn’t stop good citizens like us from asking the inevitable question: why is that building such a fertile place for the ACC?

If all goes well Bonthe will soon change forever. Well that’s the hope of many Sierra Leoneans especially people from that neglected corner of this land that we love. The Principal, who is a son of that district, has signed a deal with a group called Sherbro Alliance with the actor Idris Elba leading, to develop Bonthe. This is the best news about Bonthe district for many years. We join the people of the district who are already celebrating. We wish them well but feel compelled to put the following on record.

THE REALITIES FREE QUALITY EDUCATION COMING HOME NOW

When Principal and his New Direction declared Free Quality Education as their flagship program upon assuming office, there were celebrations all over. And those celebrations were justified indeed? The FREE side of the project meant that parents would no longer pay fees for their children even for public exams. Students offering certain courses at university also said goodbye to college fees. School buses are now here to also ease movement to and from school. It’s all looking good. Right?

WATER RESOURCES MINISTER HANGS ON BY HIS FINGER NAILS

We are still trying to come to terms with the miracle of Mr. Waterman surviving the last cabinet shake-up. What a real miracle that was! How did the Waterman survive? Since taking up the job, this man appears to have gone to sleep, waking up occasionally to waffle a few words that get reported by the media and then he goes back to bed wrapped up in his nice duvet from Qatar.
