The Sierra Leone Volleyball Association will play host to eight nations in the second stage of the Confederation of African Volleyball Beach Volleyball Championship from April 2nd-7th at Lumley Beach. The seven participating countries are Algeria, Senegal, Benin, Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia and host Sierra Leone. The event represents the qualifying series for African countries for the Federation of International Volleyball FIVB world beach volleyball championship in Poland later this year. Sierra Leone recently won gold and silver medals for both boys and girls in the first phase in Dakar, Senegal. Speaking to politico, former captain of the female team, Florence Amara said she was confident Sierra Leone would qualify for the World championship in Poland. Adding that, “We`re gradually reaching the height in beach volleyball and the team has proved its worth in the just completed beach volleyball championship in Dakar, Senegal and I strongly believe they can do better especially playing at home". The former captain said, “Our performance in beach volleyball has taken us to another level in the sport...we want to take volleyball ahead of football and athletics". She called on government to make the championship a success. She thanked Africell for their role in promoting Volleyball across the country and called on Sierra Leoneans to rally behind the team with moral and financial support to the team.
