MPs, NATCOM discuss Sierra Leone's GSM service

Crispina Cummings Members of the parliamentary committee on communications have raised issues around poor quality services of mobile telephone companies with the country’s regulator. Chairman of the national telecommunications commission – NATCOM –Siray Timbo said their role was to regulate telecom operations and to improve information and communication technology in Sierra Leone. He said they were working towards amending the telecommunications Act before they could present parliament with agreements they had already had with all the companies in operation. He assured that issues of service quality were on top of their agenda, and disclosed that plans were underway to procure and install quality service monitoring equipment. He added that after the review of the Act, new measures would be included for quality service. Meanwhile, the committee chairman, Binneh Bangura, MP, asked the commission to send a comprehensive status report which they would study as part of their oversight responsibilities on ministries, departments and agencies.
