The Sierra Leone Football Association and all 14 Premier League clubs have agreed to resume the domestic football league on Wednesday 3 July after a delay of almost a whole year.
At the end of a series of meetings last evening, the football authorities said the first match of the league would be played between FC Johansen and Ports Authority at the Wusum Grounds in Makeni.
According to the Ag. General Secretary of the FA, Abdul Rahman Swaray, the association will give Le 10 million to each of the 14 clubs to help them prepare for both rounds of the tournament.
He said the ongoing Super 10 League would be called off immediately.
The overall winner of the league will get Le 20 million with several other consolation prizes.
Swaray described the outcome of the meeting as “a piece of good news for all football fans”.
Reacting to the news last night, the sporting director of Central Parade, Noel Horton who attended the meeting told Politico that the league might have delayed in starting but that ‘’it is better late than never’’. He said they were happy for the resumption despite coinciding with the rainy season. He assured that they would cope with the weather.
For his part the head coach of FC Johansen, John Keister expressed delight saying “this is what I have been waiting for”. He said his team had been training for a very long time.
Asked whether he had any issues with the onset of the rains, Keister said ‘’the rains will come but not on a daily basis so that will not be a problem for me as I am ready to play”.
