The Freetown Waste Management Company has launched a new campaign to clean the city of Freetown. Under an operation codenamed "Bag it and Bin it" the Waste Management company is attempting to educate Freetown residents on the use of the newly introduced giant black plastic bag by households, cookery sellers, vehicle and shop owners and other groups to deposit domestic garbage.
Mayor Sam Franklyn Bode Gibson encouraged the public to use the bags always for the success of the campaign.
The Generally Manager of the Freetown Waste Management Company, Sulaiman Zainu Parker disclosed that a memorandum had been signed with companies in Guinea and Senegal who would buy the used plastic from Sierra Leone for recycling.
Parker said FWMC vehicles would go round to collect the garbage bags in Freetown, and expressed the belief that the new operation would fast-track the cleaning of the city and create jobs for young people.
