FC Kallon qualify for next round in CAF Cup, as Douala coach cries foul

By Zainab Joaque

FC Kallon of Sierra Leone on Saturday defeated Union Sportive Douala of Cameroon 2 – 0 in Freetown in the second leg of the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup to go through to the next stage.

Abdul Bobson Sesay created a scoring chance in the 20th minute when he skipped the ball across the edge to force a fine save from the Douala goalkeeper Mounchili Mfombam. Mohamed Kallon was brought down outside the area by a desperate Mandjombo Soulemanou after he had surged through the defender to win a free kick from which he gave the lead to his team in the 41st minute.

Kallon also had a hand in the 46th minute by winning the ball in the midfield just after half time and slipping a superb pass down the right flank to Lansana Kamara who cut the ball back into the area, before coolly slotting home and propelling his team to victory. Union Sportive Douala made FC Kallon to work hard for their victory as goalkeeper Mfombam produced a string of superb saves to frustrate them in the early stages and then keep the game on a knife's edge.

Coach Musa Kallon could not hide his emotions and told journalists in a post-match presser that his side deserved the victory. “We have been working for it for quite a long time and today we are reaping the fruits of our labour. I told my boys to believe in themselves. See you guys in our next match” he said, showing off. He said that they took home a few lessons after their first defeat to Douala during the first leg in Cameroon.

Team captain Mohamed Kallon said “We will not surrender the title easily, we intend to come back stronger and better”. FC Kallon have sailed through to the next stage on 2-1 aggregate, and are set to host Warri Wolves of Nigeria on the 24 March 2012.

Meanwhile the The President of the Cameroon side, Frank Happi has blamed the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) for his team's 2-0 defeat. “If the responsibility of the Match Commissioner and the Referee is in the hands of the Club, then they have to please the club” he said, and also accused Mohamed Kallon of giving directives to the referee insisting that the free kick that resulted in the first goal was undeserving and should not have been.
