The National Under 20 football team - Shooting Stars returned to Freetown on Tuesday after securing a 3-2 victory over their Chadian counterparts in front of an enthusiastic capacity crowd at the 22nd Idris Derby Stadium in Ndjamena
The match was the first leg tie of the preliminary round one in the ongoing qualifiers for the 2013 African Under 20 Youth Championship in due to be held in Algeria.
Ninga Cassimir opened the scores in the 25th minute for Chad before Alhaji Kamara of Sierra Leone canceled the advantage in the 35th.
In the second half, the Chadians went ahead again with a goal by Djedot Boun Franklyn in the 72nd minute. Defender Gibrila Fofanah converted a penalty in the 80th minute to level the scores while Lahai Coker got the winner for shooting stars five minutes to full time.
Speaking on the phone from Chad, head coach Alimmamy Turay told Politico that, they were well prepared before embarking on the journey….”we came for victory, we saw it, and we conquered”, He said, they are now preparing for the return leg slated for May 5 in Freetown.
A draw or a win for Shooting Stars in Sierra Leone, will pave the way for them to face Cameroon in the next stage of the qualifiers.
