FREETOWN’S EL-CLASSICO: FC KALLON VS EE LIONS

By Alhaji Komba

The leaders of the Sierra Leone Premier League FC Kallon, will on Sunday April 29 face their arch-rivals EE Lions the killers, in a do or die battle at national stadium in Freetown.

Last season’s league runners-up, FC Kallon, are on 27 points from 12 matches and have so far scored the highest number of goals, and conceding the least in ongoing league.

Their leading goal scorer Alhaji Kamara, defender Gibrila Fofana and midfielder Lahai Coker scored the goals for shooting stars in Chad. FC Kallon are looking to extend their lead over Old Edwardians who are in second place with 25 points.

Coach Charley Wright said “we want to concentrate on winning the league by maintaining our current position in the league.”

The 2009/2010 back to back champions, EE Lions, are currently in 5th position on the table with 19 points from 12 matches. The rejuvenated EE Lions are injury-free and Coach Abdulai Kaloga says he wants the match attendance to reflect the crucial nature of the encounter.

Tunde Scott Jr. of Lions says it is going to be a restless battle for the defenders of FC Kallon against the attacking force of EE Lions.

Last season’s encounter between the two sides ended in a barren score line but attracted the largest crowd to the national stadium for a long time. This is the last match of the first round of the Sierra Leone Premier League.
